I was challenged to come up with a "tinkering" or "inquiry" for elementary mathematics. This was my answer to the challenge! When you add on a circular number line, you create repeating cycles of numbers. From there, you can represent the cycles with bead patterns and start to ask questions about the nature of the cycles, and how they change on different "clocks". Modular mathematics is an important part of representing any repeating pattern mathematically (dates, times, patterns of atoms in crystals, even patterns in weaving).
